Ms. Daliah hadn’t believed Caeley. It didn’t matter that she was one of the better-behaved children at the orphanage. It didn’t matter that Caeley looked as tired and nervous as she felt when she returned. It didn’t matter that she had been chased to the Royal Pet’s tree. Caeley had been gone all night and that was enough to upset the matron. “There’s a first time for everything.” The matron said as she brought Caeley up to the girls’ dormitory. “I expected you to start lying sooner, truth be told.” “But I’m not-!” Caeley tried to explain. “I am impressed though. It is a doozy as your first.” “But it’s-!” “Start with a smaller lie next time and I just might believe you.” Ms. Daliah said, opening the door to the room. The other girls were getting ready for the day, making beds and putting away clothes. “All right girls, you can head down to breakfast. Caeley will be taking care of the beds and clothes for the rest of the week.” Caeley was grateful for the extra chores. She

Reap What You Sow
It started in the Spring.
The last of the frost had finally melted away and the seedings had begun in the town of Longroam. Farmers and gardeners planted new plants alongside, or in place of, their mainstay crops and flowers. The Sowing Festival was rarely a loud or raucous affair, not after a long day of work, but everyone attended and enjoyed themselves.
Until they heard the roar from the woods.
It was a long and primal rumble that echoed from miles away. The townsfolk tried to find its source the next day after a frantic night of restless sleep. Massive footprints were found before fallen trees, but seemed to disappear the deeper they w

Caeley was in trouble.
Or rather, was in trouble again.
She was used to the bustle and hustle of the Golden City, having lived the last few years among its streets and alleys. The orphanage had a hard enough time keeping an eye on the younger children. It wasn’t a surprise to find Caeley and some of the older orphans wandering the town without supervision. Most tried their hand at picking pockets and swiping idle fruit or bread, but Caeley was content simply exploring the town and finding new things to discover.
Her father brought them to the Golden Woods from the Spring Meadows when she was younger, but she barely remembered what he
A cold wind blew across the town. The moon was full, its light shining bright and clear among the starry sky. Bats and other creatures of the night flew through the air.
All in all, it proved to be a very fitting Halloween night.
Kids bounced from house to house, neighborhood to neighborhood, to their hearts content. Witches and ghosts, princesses and superheroes, and all sorts of disguises could be seen in the festive menagerie. Bags were filled to the brim with all kinds of delectable treats…and the occasional toothbrush or Bible could be found abandoned by the roadside.
It should have been a satisfying night for the typical trick-

The Oath - Epilogue APRIL FOOL'S!
"Wow, it sure has been a long time, hasn't it, Gilbrid?" Morrigan stated out of nowhere.
"It sure as fuck has, My Queen." Douglas replied.
"Since when do you swear?"
"Since I've been stuck in this yellow fucking forest for 500 Goddamn fucking bloody years, My Queen, and there's been nothing else to do!"
"Oh."
"Yeah."
And then there was an explosion.
So many explosions.
All the explosions.

The Fog and the Door
The fog wasn’t unusual.
It was to be expected with an open air train station after all. Having rain, snow, or hail pelt you as way of greeting once you stepped out of the train car was a common occurrence. Many commuters carried their umbrellas on them at all times just in case.
It was unusual, however, that Georgine was the only one on the track that day.
Georgine worked the morning shift at Buster Bites, a popular family restaurant in a busy part of the city. Whenever she took the train back home, it would be in the middle of rush hour and by the time she got to her stop passengers poured out in waves. She became familiar with a fe

Tobias was a very quiet child.
It usually took a great deal of effort to receive an answer from him that consisted of more than three words. He kept to himself most of the time, due in part to having received his education from private tutors. Quiet and shy, Tobias was never very good at making small chit-chat with his parents' friends or their children whenever a party or soiree was to be had. Friends were even harder for the young boy. Tobias thought he would end up spending the rest of his life in a corner reading his books.
That is, until the day Queen Morrigan made her announcement.
Tobias' parents weren't the only ones to be excited

Uff Da Ish Da Fy Da - Pt 4
It would have been considered a lovely animal once upon a time.
Now, however, its coat was so matted with dirt, grime, and dried blood that any semblance of the snowy white it had once been was all but gone. Scars and old wounds hung on its wiry, starved frame, reminders of the many battles it suffered through and won. It bared its yellowed fangs at Gerry, the drool flowing so profusely that it dripped onto the cave floor. It wasn't just hunger glowing behind its crimson eyes, but that of assured victory. Even in its weakened state, it was certain it could take on a solitary Human.
Gerry was certain it could as well.
That didn't mean he wa

"...he is the most tame and well-trained Human you shall ever come across in this lifetime."
Queen Morrigan did her best to keep a straight face as she said it. Almost 500 years and it was still amusing to see the look on a newcomer's face when they saw her Gilbrid for the first time. The messenger needn't have worried in the slightest about the Royal Pet of course. He was more likely to have been trampled by a wild unicorn in the middle of the throne room than to be attacked by her Gilbrid.
Gilbrid was barely able to stifle a smirk himself as he stared down at the young faerie. Centuries of meeting outsiders had taught him to look at a spo
"Hey Xavier, you ready to head out?"
"Yeah man, just let me grab my phone. Now what are we going to do tonight? You didn't exactly specify when you brought this up this afternoon."
"I suppose you can say it's a bit of a, uh, 'town tradition' so to speak."
"Kenneth, I just moved here a few weeks ago. I'm glad to have you as a friend so soon, but I am NOT doing anything illegal just because it's 'tradition'. My mom would flip her lid if she had to bail me out."
"We're not doing anything illegal! Jeezus, what do you take me for?"
"I'm just saying it's the night before Halloween and I don't want to be part of some elaborate prank j
